The Box Elder School District resides in a rural community bordering the boundaries of the Rocky Boy's Indian Reservation. Rocky Boy is home to the Chippewa Cree Tribe, with a total tribal enrollment of more than 5,000. The majority of the students at Box Elder School are American Indians, many of whom are members of the Chippewa Cree Tribe.
The school facilities were first established in 1929, but in 1963 a fire completely destroyed the original building. The existing main building was constructed in 1965 to house a student population of 161. Today, our enrollment is 398 students in K-12, 101 students in the High School. With the increased enrollment over the years, several additions have been made to thee main building, the most recent being new elementary classrooms.
